Papuashvili: Kallas threatens judges instead of apologizing to Georgia

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has fumed over the statements of the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, Report informs.

Papuashvili stated that instead of apologizing to Georgia's judicial system, Kallas is today targeting Georgian judges with slander and threatening them with punitive measures.

According to Papuashvili, this approach no longer has anything to do with European values:

"Unfortunately, the Georgian state and people continue to hear aggressive rhetoric, slander, and Soviet-style threats from high-level representatives of the European Union - including Kaja Kallas. Today, Kallas is openly threatening two Georgian judges with sanctions. This is the unsuccessful and dangerous path chosen by Brussels."

Papuashvili added that this approach is an open attack on Georgia's independent judicial system, and citizens within the European Union should consider the nature of these threats.

He called on Kallas to apologize for previous slanderous attacks against the Georgian judicial system, saying otherwise, such statements would deal an even greater blow to Brussels' reputation.

Kaja Kallas, in a statement made before today's meeting of EU Foreign Ministers, stated that they are considering possible measures against the Georgian government and that "all options are on the table." According to her, these measures could include the suspension of the visa-free regime.
