A documentary Return. Heroes on the Shield about the identification and repatriation of fallen soldiers from the frontline was premiered at Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Report's Eastern European bureau informs.
During the presentation, MIA spokesperson Mariana Reva stated that the main idea of the film is to present a unified picture of the processes of repatriation, identification, and search for missing persons under special circumstances.
The film is 25 minutes long and based on documentary facts. It shows exclusive footage of the repatriation process of bodies (remains) and footage taken during forensic examinations.
The film also features the work done by specialists in the ministry's laboratory to obtain DNA profiles, the process of identifying individuals, difficulties studying DNA samples from remains, the way bodies are preserved, and more.
The processes are commented on in the film by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Deputy Minister Leonid Tymchenko, Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances Artur Dobroserdov, First Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine - Head of the Main Investigation Department Maksym Tsutskiridze, and Deputy Director of the State Scientific Research Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ruslan Abbasov.
During the three years of war, the bodies of 7,017 Ukrainian fighters have been returned to their homeland.
