Over 300 Russian citizens evacuated from Iran via Azerbaijan

Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova has spoken about the evacuation of Russian and foreign citizens from Iran after the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, Report informs.

"Thanks to the prompt work of our diplomats, the first group of 86 people, including children and citizens of other friendly states, was evacuated through the Astara checkpoint on June 14. On June 15, a safe border crossing was organized for 238 Russian citizens, including families of diplomats and cultural figures," Moskalkova wrote in Telegram.

The ombudsperson expressed special gratitude to the Azerbaijani authorities "for their humanitarian attitude and comprehensive assistance in organizing the evacuation."

"My office continues to monitor the situation and is ready to promptly respond to all requests from citizens. I urge all Russian citizens in the region to exercise maximum caution and immediately contact Russian diplomatic missions if any difficulties arise," Moskalkova emphasized.

She noted the importance of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s recommendations to refrain from traveling to Israel and Iran, and to immediately leave dangerous areas.
