Over 1200 trucks piled up on Latvian-Russian border

At the Latvian-Russian border, 1,250 trucks are waiting to enter Russia, the State Revenue Service of Latvia said in a statement.

Report informs, referring to BNS, that on the morning of July 17 at the Terekhovo border crossing on the Latvian-Russian border accumulated about 850 trucks. There are about 400 more trucks at the Grebnevo border crossing. The waiting time at these border points is six days.

A large accumulation of trucks is also observed on the border of Latvia with Belarus. According to the Latvian customs service, 150 cargo vehicles gathered at the border checkpoint in Paternieki, and 200 in Silene.

“We really hoped that with the end of July 10 – the transition period in which certain categories of goods could still be exported – the queues would be significantly reduced, but our expectations were not justified,” Golubeva said.

She said transportation is also complicated by the need to check each truck for the presence of goods subject to EU economic sanctions.
