Number of those nabbed in unauthorized protests in Almaty rises to 2,600

Since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation in Almaty, Kazakh law enforcement agencies have detained 2,601 people for their involvement in the illegal protest actions, looting and other crimes, Report informs citing TASS.
As of January 15, some 2,402 detainees were reported.
“A total of 127 units of firearms and 4,077 units of ammunition were seized,” the press service of the Almaty city commandant’s office said.
On January 2, protests were held in a number of cities in Kazakhstan, which escalated into riots a few days later. They were accompanied by attacks on the police, military and authorities in many cities of the country, primarily in Almaty.
