Name of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus may be changed

The name of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) may be changed, President of the TRNC Ersin Tatar said in an interview with journalist Hilmi Dasdemir, Report informs.

In response to claims that the country's name will be changed during the expected visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Northern Cyprus, he noted: "I expect this to happen. I hold the same opinion on this issue. The federation page is closed. The word "Northern" has lost its meaning. There is no state divided into north and south. Now there are two different countries."

Tatar didn't rule out that the name of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will be changed to the Turkish Republic of Cyprus.
