UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will be held in Astana on July 3-4, Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the Diplomatic Department of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu said at a meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Council, Report informs via TASS.
“For the first time, a meeting will be held in the SCO+ format with the participation of member states, observers and dialogue partners, as well as the UN Secretary-General,” he said.

The heads of delegations will discuss preparations for the organization’s summit (July 3-4), and current international and regional topics. Particular attention will be paid to the prospects for the further development of the association and its adaptation to the formation of a new world order.
At the meeting, the ministers will consider candidates for the positions of the SCO Secretary-General and the director of the executive committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure. The participants will prepare a package of various documents for approval by the heads of state.
Iran is represented by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari since the country’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian died in a chopper crash on May 19.
