All Russian border guards will be withdrawn from Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport, a high-ranking source told the Armenian media, Report informs.
This process will happen in the near future. The official does not specify what caused this decision, but assures that the decision is political. It is noteworthy that the deployment of Russian border guards at Zvartnots airport is not regulated by the intergovernmental agreement.
Russian border guards serve at the airport according to a document signed between the commanders of the border troops of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia and the FSB of Russia.
In 1992, Armenia and Russia signed an agreement that regulates the status and activities of Russian border troops on Armenian territory. However, this agreement does not contain a clause regarding airport service.
