Mayor of liberated Kupiansk: ‘The other side is attacking again, facing serious losses’

The city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, which was liberated from occupation last year, has been attacked by the Russian army starting from Monday, mayor of the city Andrei Besedin told Report.

According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine stand on their positions and gives a worthy response to the aggressor who is constantly trying to attack the civilian population and important infrastructure facilities: “The Ukrainian army liberated the city of Kupiansk in September 2022. From that time, it is located approximately 9 kilometers from the front line. Therefore, Kupiansk is under fire every day. Until now, we have seen that the enemy - Russia, can only fight against the civilian population, critical infrastructure and destroy our cities. There is nothing about war here. This is an act of genocide and terrorism. In a word, we believe in the Ukrainian army, our soldiers who protect us. They are slowly liberating our cities and towns. We are confident that the enemy will soon be withdrawn from our territories and we will move forward with the civilized world towards recovery.”

The mayor added that over 20 civilians were killed and more than 40 people were injured in Kupiansk this year.

"Here, 35-40% of the housing fund was damaged. 98% of the buildings in the central part of Kupiansk were destroyed. After the liberation of Kupiansk, Russia tried to reoccupy this area. However, the other party cannot achieve anything in this direction, they face serious losses. The enemy periodically makes more serious attacks, and sometimes it is less active. During this month, there is an increase in the scale of attacks.”
