A strong magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred off the coast of the Kuril Islands near Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, in the early morning of Friday, February 23, 2024, at 6.25 am local time (GMT +11), Report informs, citing the US Geological Survey.
The quake had a shallow depth of 44 km (27 mi) and was not felt (or at least not reported so).
