Lukashenko says he's had enough of presidency

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said he does not hold on to the post of head of state and has no goal of retaining power, Report informs via Belarusian media.

The Belarusian president made the remark at a government meeting on the development of civil society, the work of parties and public associations.

As Lukashenko noted, he did not refuse to propose to abolish direct elections of the head of state in the updated constitution, because he would immediately be accused of fearing the people and trying to keep his seat.

"They would begin to make accusations that I would gather my own people, and they would elect me again as president. I have never had such a goal. No, and I never will have. I'm already fed up with the presidency. It is not my main task to maintain power, as they say. There is no such problem at all. You must be more concerned about this," Lukashenko said.
