Lavrov says West is trying to alienate Armenia from Russia

Armenia pursues an inconsistent policy regarding the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with a number of Russian media, according to Report.

He noted that the tripartite agreement signed in 2020 ensured balanced progress in normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and contributed to the resumption of all communications, but the West, represented by the United States and the European Union, tried to intervene in the process.

"At the summit in Yerevan in 2022, the CSTO agreed on a document on the transfer of additional weapons to protect the borders [of Armenia], this is a fact. All ministers, including the Armenian minister, endorsed this, and in the morning, when he [Pashinyan] opened the summit, he said that the consensus was not reached," Lavrov said.

Lavrov noted that Yerevan unfairly treats Russia’s participation in the process of settling relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the role of the peacekeeping corps, which was stationed in Karabakh.

"Before talking about CSTO's obligation to designate an area of responsibility, it is necessary to designate the borders of Armenia, complete delimitation, which is what the Armenian leadership is now actively doing," he said.
