In the political circles of Russia, the action of the EU civil mission on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia is regarded as Yerevan’s deviation from allied and partner commitments to Moscow. This is another stab in the back from Armenia, Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the Natsionalnaya Oborona (National Defense) magazine Igor Korotchenko said.
He was commenting on the start of the work of the EU civilian mission on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Russian bureau of Report informs.
According to the expert, Armenia is trying to turn towards the West: “We are witnessing a consistent policy of Armenia's turning towards the West. In this case, these are attempts by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to draw the European Union, France and the US behind them into the South Caucasus region.”
The political scientist noted the clear, consistent policy of Azerbaijani diplomacy and personally President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who distanced himself as much as possible from Pashinyan’s decision, which was reflected in the final document.
Korotchenko also stressed that Armenia is an unreliable country that is looking for new patrons and Russia, in turn, will draw the appropriate conclusions.
