Justice Ministry eyes ordering Saakashvili’s toxicological examination

The Georgian Justice Ministry will apply to the National Bureau of Expertise named after Samkharauli to conduct a toxicological examination of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze said, Report informs referring to the Georgian media.

Saakashvili’s lawyer Valery Gelbakhiani said that as a result of a biopsy, toxic substances were found in the ex-president’s body. The ex-president’s mother, Giuli Alasania, mentioned the presence of heavy metals, among which was mercury. Other details were promised to be released early next week.

“In order for the society not to have a single question left, tomorrow morning we will contact the Samkharauli National Center for a toxicological examination and so that the public has complete and comprehensive information about the state of health of Mikheil Saakashvili,” Bregadze told reporters.

Supporters of Saakashvili and his family are demanding the release of the ex-president for health reasons, problems with which began after a hunger strike that lasted 50 days.

On November 20, a rally was held in Tbilisi near the Government Chancellery demanding that Saakashvili be transferred abroad for medical treatment. Another rally is scheduled for November 23.
