The Central Asian region has the richest natural resources, including hydro resources, all types of metals, including rare earth metals, and a huge potential for "green energy" of all types, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said at the Central Asia-Germany summit in Astana, Report informs referring to Kyrgyz media.
"At the same time, in the context of globalization, climate change issues require special joint attention - they pose a serious threat to Central Asia, where the average temperature is rising faster than in any other region of the Earth," he said.
He noted that the mountain ecosystems of the region, including Kyrgyzstan, are the most vulnerable to climate change.
For example, over the past 70 years, the area of glaciers in the country has decreased by 16%, and by the end of the century the country may lose more than 80% of them, which may lead to a water shortage in the entire region, he added.
