Iran will import Russian gas via pipelines from Azerbaijan in accordance with agreements reached in a major deal between Tehran and Moscow two months ago, Report informs, citing the Iranian media.
According to the Iranian Oil Ministry, in the near future, swap deliveries of Russian gas in the amount of 6 million and 9 million cubic meters per day will be carried out through Azerbaijan.
The story cites an internal report from Iran's oil ministry that says the purchase and swap arrangements are linked to a $40 billion deal signed in July between the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and Russia's Gazprom.
Iran has already concluded a gas exchange agreement with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, according to which it consumes gas received from Turkmenistan in its northeastern regions and supplies the same amount of gas to Azerbaijan.
Iran will supply Russian consumers in the south with 6 million cubic meters of gas per day in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Gazprom will be a partner in the liquefaction process.
