Iran proposes Islamic Schengen to boost regional cooperation

During a visit to Baghdad on Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian proposed eliminating border controls between Islamic countries, similar to the Schengen Area in the European Union. According to Report, which cites the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Pezeshkian believes this approach could help "neutralize foreign sanctions" imposed on the region.

Pezeshkian also called for the establishment of special commissions to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation between Iran and Iraq in various spheres, including politics, economics, culture, and social affairs. Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid agreed with the need to strengthen the partnership between the two nations and urged a move away from using the US dollar in bilateral trade transactions.
