Iran joins Shanghai Cooperation Organization

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has officially announced Iran’s entry into the ranks of the member states of the association, Report informs referring to TASS.
The decision was made at the 23rd summit of the organization chaired by India.
Iran became the ninth member of the interstate association. In September 2022, at the SCO summit in Samarkand, a memorandum of commitment was signed for Iran to join the organization.
The SCO was founded on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai. At first, the organization included six countries - Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In 2017, India and Pakistan joined them.
