Iran can produce nuclear fuel on its own; in the near future, it expects to use it at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, as Report informs, Iranian Vice President, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization (AOEI) Mohammad Eslami said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Iran can already produce nuclear fuel itself. We have held talks with Rosatom and we hope that within the framework of our interaction and on the basis of the plans and contracts that we will conclude with it, we will be able to start using Iranian fuel in the reactor itself in Bushehr,” Eslami said.
The construction of power units at the Bushehr NPP is considered the largest Russian-Iranian project. The first block of the nuclear power plant, completed with the participation of Russia, was connected to the national power system of Iran in September 2011. The construction of the second is underway and a contract for the construction of the third power unit has been signed. In addition, Moscow supplies Tehran with the nuclear fuel needed for the operation of the reactor of the first unit. The latest delivery of Russian fuel was on April 29, 2020.
