Investigative Committee of Armenia: Sergeant shot fellow soldier, presenting it as self-mutilation

A serviceman in Armenia shot a fellow soldier and presented the incident as self-mutilation, according to the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

The incident occurred on September 19, 2023, at one of the combat positions. Before that, a report was received that conscript soldier A. Gevorkyan shot himself in the leg with his fellow soldier's AKM. However, during the investigation, it turned out that the incident was preceded by a quarrel between junior sergeant V.M. and Gevorkyan over an issue unrelated to the service.

During the quarrel, V.M. took a weapon from the gun cabinet, loaded it and fired into the air. Then fired at his opponent. After that, he gave the machine gun to Gevorkyan so that he would leave his fingerprints on the weapon. He called on other soldiers to say that it was Gevorkyan who accidentally shot himself. V.M. was charged and arrested. The case materials have been sent to court.
