Iranian authorities have finally allowed the hospitalization of imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi after she complained of health issues for nearly nine weeks.

Report informs via AP that the human rights activist, who has been arrested 13 times and sentenced to prison five times for her advocacy, will be granted medical leave for comprehensive treatment of several ailments.

According to a medical report issued in September, Mohammadi suffers from heart disease and has developed complications with her main cardiac artery. Her support group, Free Narges, believes that the transfer to a hospital "will not solve the serious health problems caused by months of neglect and deprivation" in prison.

Mohammadi, who began her fight for human rights in the 1990s, was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2016 for her involvement in the movement promoting the abolition of the death penalty in Iran. In January 2024, an additional 15 months were added to her sentence, followed by another six months in August for protesting the execution of another political prisoner.</p>

The activist is serving her sentence in Iran's Evin Prison, which houses political prisoners and those deemed to have ties to the West. In 2023, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts in combating the oppression of women in Iran and advancing human rights and freedoms.
