Gerasimov: Ukraine loses over 300 troops in offensive attempt on Kursk

Ukrainian troops, who attempted an offensive in Russia's Kursk region, have lost 315 troops, including at least 100 killed, and 54 units of military equipment, including seven tanks, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said on Wednesday, Report informs via United News of India.

During a meeting held by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, Gerasimov said that units of the Ukrainian armed forces of up to 1,000 people attempted an offensive at 5:30 a.m. Moscow time (GMT+3) on August 6 to seize territory in the Kursk Region.

"The enemy's losses were 315 people, including at least 100 killed and 215 people wounded. Fifty-four armored vehicles were destroyed, including seven tanks," the military chief told the meeting.

An attempt by the Ukrainian troops to move deep into the territory of Russia has been thwarted, Gerasimov said.

He further said that the operation against Ukrainian units would be "completed by defeating the enemy" and the movement of the Russian military to Russia's state border.

On August 6, the Russian Defense Ministry said that up to 300 Ukrainian fighters, supported by 11 tanks and more than 20 armored vehicles, attacked Russian state border protection units in the Kursk Region. The ministry said the sabotage group was defeated and retreated to Ukraine.

The ministry stated earlier on Wednesday that Russian forces continued to defeat Ukraine's fighters throughout the night, adding that the operation continues.

Up to 260 Ukrainian troops and 50 units of military equipment were destroyed in the past 24 hours, the ministry added.
