Georgian president lays down condition for release of opposition figure

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said at a briefing that she was ready to release opposition figure Giorgi Rurua, Report informs.
According to her, Giorgi Rurua can be released only after an agreement between the government and the opposition to eliminate the political crisis.
Giorgi Rurua, the co-founder of the opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi, was found guilty of illegal possession and carrying of firearms and was sentenced to four years in prison by Tbilisi City Court in November 2019.
The opposition, which has been demanding Rurua’s release since his detention, calls him a political prisoner.
