Georgian PM calls resolution of European Parliament 'shameful'

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has called the resolution of the European Parliament in support of convicted ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili shameful.

Report informs via Sputnik-Georgia that Garibashvili made the statement in Berlin, where an international tourism fair was organized.

In mid-February of this year, the European Parliament adopted a resolution stating the deterioration of Saakashvili's health and the inadequate reaction of the country's authorities to this. The document was supported by 577 MEPs, 33 MEPs voted against, and 26 abstained.

The document emphasizes that "the treatment of prisoners such as former President Saakashvili is a litmus test of the commitment of the Georgian government to European values and European aspirations declared by it, including the status of a candidate for EU membership."

The European Parliament called on the Georgian authorities to release Saakashvili.
