It is very important to discuss global issues such as climate change in the South Caucasus, Nikoloz Samkharadze, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, said in his statement to Report.
Samkharadze emphasized that holding COP29 in Azerbaijan is also an important event for Georgia and the region as a whole:
"First of all, I congratulate brotherly and friendly Azerbaijan on hosting this international event. The organization of this event in Baku is extremely important for both the South Caucasus and Azerbaijan itself. Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 is also an important and joyful event for Georgia."
According to Samkharadze, obtaining the status of the COP29 host country shows that Azerbaijan has great prestige throughout the world:
"We are very happy that this conference will be organized in Baku. Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia last week. In the coming days, the parliament will convene with its new composition, and we will keep the expansion of relations with Azerbaijan in focus. I am confident that in the next four years, friendly and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia will deepen further. Climate change is a global issue and does not pass without affecting the Caucasus region. As parliamentarians, we will continue to discuss such issues."
