Georgian CEC: Parliamentary elections to be held on Oct.26

The Central Election Commission of Georgia called on political parties to timely implement the necessary procedures to participate in the parliamentary elections in 2024. The elections will be held on October 26, Report informs via Georgian media.
“Parties that have representation in parliament following the results of the last elections, in 2020, simply apply to the Central Election Commission. They must do this no later than 57 days before the elections,” the CEC said in a statement.
In addition to the ruling party Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia, there are 11 other opposition parties.
“The remaining parties must contact the Central Election Commission by July 15 and receive a sample of forms for collecting signatures of supporters. They must submit a list of at least 25,000 signatures of support no later than August 1,” the CEC added.
For the first time, elections will be held only according to the proportional system. The barrier is 5%. According to public opinion polls, the ruling party and the former ruling party United National Movement, which created the association Victory Platform with the Strategy Agmashenebeli party, are going to pass the barrier.
