"Our efforts to strengthen the Georgian Defense Forces will continue," Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Defense Forces.
According to him, today, the Georgian army is the largest state institution in the country, which has won the public trust.
The Prime Minister promised to intensify efforts to strengthen the Defense Forces, apply the standards of NATO member states, modernize weapons, and provide decent social conditions for service members and their families.
Speaking at the event, President Salome Zourabichvili thanked the Georgian military for their service.
She said the Georgian army is united, apolitical, loyal to the homeland and the people: "The professionalism and training of our servicemen have always been highly valued. Our international partners trust our army."
Georgia marks Defense Forces Day on April 30. On this day in 1991, the first official call-up to the army began.
