Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been on a hunger strike in prison, was transferred to the Gldani prison hospital. Report's Georgian bureau says, quoting the Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia.
"In order to avoid deterioration in his health and in connection with the increased danger, prisoner Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred from the 12th penitentiary to the medical institution for the accused and convicts No 18. We will gradually provide the public with additional information," the department said.
The need for hospitalization of the former president of Georgia was announced by a council of doctors. The information that he was taken from the Rustavi prison by a helicopter was disseminated by Georgian TV companies, but it was not specified where exactly the prisoner was taken.
The politician returned to Georgia on October 1 after seven years of emigration. He was immediately detained by the police - he is being accused of several criminal cases.
