Georgia-Russia talks postponed because of Ukraine

The next stage of Georgia-Russia talks, scheduled for spring of 2022, has been postponed, Georgian PM's Special Representative in Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze said, Report informs.

He said that the last talks with Grigory Karasin, Chairperson of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs of Russia, were held in November last year: "The exact date of the next meeting had not been determined. We will follow the development of the situation in Ukraine. It is not expedient to hold this meeting in such a situation."

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and Russia were broken off in 2008. The Abashidze-Karasin talks have been the only informal dialogue format between the two countries since 2012. Trade, tourism, and humanitarian issues are discussed on this platform.
