Georgia recalls its Ambassador from Ukraine

Georgia recalled the Ambassador from Kyiv for consultations following the appointment of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili as head of the Executive Committee of Ukraine's National Reforms Council, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

The decree of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, on the appointment of Saakashvili was published the day before.

"The appointment of a person, who was convicted and wanted in Georgia, as a strategic partner was the basis for the decision to recall the Georgian Ambassador to Ukraine Teymuraz Sharashenidze for consultations," Georgian Foreign Ministry David Zalkaliani said.

Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia, has been installed in a top position co-ordinating reforms in Ukraine, where the war-battered economy has been plunged into a deep recession by the coronavirus crisis.

President Volodymyr Zelensky, on Thursday, appointed former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili head of the executive committee of Ukraine's National Reform Council after an earlier plan to make him deputy premier ran into political opposition.

"I believe that he will be able to give an impetus to the National Reform Council and help make important changes in the life of the country." - Zelensky said in a statement after appointing Saakashvili.
