Georgia is witnessing an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, defying the typical summer trend of lower infections.
According to Report, Ivane Chkhaidze, head of the country's National Group of Technical Consultants on Immunization, has expressed concern over the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the past three weeks.
According to Chkhaidze, laboratory-confirmed data indicates that Georgia is currently experiencing the highest number of coronavirus cases, which is unusual for the summer season. "The last laboratory-confirmed case of influenza was registered in early July," he emphasized, highlighting the atypical nature of the current surge.
Despite the rising cases, health authorities have noted that most of the viral infections are presenting with mild symptoms.
