Georgia was elected a member of the Human Rights Council for 2023-2025 during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, country's Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili said, Report informs via TASS.

"I congratulate Georgia on its election as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for 2023-2025. This is an important success for our country and gives us the opportunity to affirm Georgia's commitment to fundamental human rights values ​​and actively participate in ensuring their protection globally," Darchiashvili said on Facebook.

He noted that he will work in close cooperation with other countries to improve the quality of human rights protection around the world.

It is the second time that Georgia is becoming a member of the UN Human Rights Council. For the first time, the republic was elected to this body for three years in 2016.
