Georgia bans plastic bags

Production, import and sale of all types of plastic bags has been banned in Georgia starting today.
Georgian bureau of Report informs that entrepreneurs will be fined GEL 500 ($186) and their goods will be confiscated if they violate the rule.
The fine will be doubled in the case of the repeated violation. Plastic bag producers will be supervised by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. The import of the packages will be monitored by the Customs Service of the Ministry of Finance and the sale by local authorities.
Notably, the use of plastic packages in the neighboring country has been banned since October 1 last year.
