Bill allowing to sue president approved in Georgia

The Georgian parliament has approved amendments to the law on the Constitutional Court in the third reading.

According to Report, 83 deputies supported the bill, while 6 voted against.

Thus, it will be possible to appeal to the Constitutional Court against the actions or inaction of the President of Georgia, the government, and the Prosecutor General's Office.

The Parliament, the High Council of Justice, the Council of the National Bank, the Public Defender, the Auditor General, and the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic will also be able to file a lawsuit in the court.

The law will come into force on the day of its publication.

The initiative to amend the legislation belongs to the ruling Georgian Dream Party. The party has recently failed to appeal to the Constitutional Court over President Salome Zourabichvili's activities during the appointment of ambassadors.
