Freight train derails in Armenia’s Armavir

A freight train has derailed on the Karakert-Dalarik section in the Armavir region of Armenia, according to the press service of the South Caucasus Railway, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

The train of 36 cars was partially loaded with raw materials for cement production. There were also empty carriages. There are no casualties. In addition to the train, the railway track was also damaged. The company is currently carrying out emergency restoration work. It is planned that the consequences of the collapse will be eliminated within two days.

Traffic along the section has been stopped for this period, and therefore the Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan commuter trains, as well as the Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan international route have been canceled.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
