Foreigners may be restricted from working in Georgia

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on regulating the employment of foreign migrants in the local economy and introducing quotas for them, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze said, Report informs.

"Due to the incompleteness of the legislation in this area, there are situations where Georgian workers lose their jobs and are replaced by foreigners. At the same time, no requirements are made against them, and employers are not obliged to inform the state. Therefore, the issue will be regulated and we will submit a package of amendments to the parliament. This will allow us to control the situation and avoid the threats that exist today," Darakhvelidze.

According to the deputy minister, many countries have a practice of setting quotas for hiring foreign citizens.
