Türkiye is determined to deepen cooperation with Syria in all areas, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan wrote on X after meeting with Ahmad al-Shaara, Syria's interim transitional president, Report informs.
Hakan Fidan noted that in the nine months since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, he is already in Damascus for the third time:
"During each visit, I personally observe the progress made by Syria in various fields. Today, during the meeting with Mr. Shaara, we discussed many issues, including trade, investment, transport, and energy. We evaluated potential bilateral and regional steps aimed at Syria's reconstruction. Special attention during the meeting was paid to security issues. We discussed both internal and external threats directed against Syria's sovereignty and political unity."
The minister emphasized that Türkiye will continue to support Syria's fight against terrorist organizations:
"We also reaffirmed our readiness to provide necessary assistance to the Syrian government in managing camps in the northeast of the country and ensuring their security.
The people of Syria are eager to take advantage of this historic opportunity to build a better future. The Syrian government simultaneously faces many challenges aimed at ensuring greater security, stability, and prosperity in the country. The international community, especially the US and European countries, provides significant support in overcoming these difficulties. At the same time, Israel is pursuing policies that undermine stability in our region. As Türkiye, we will continue to stand by the people of Syria, supporting their legitimate expectations and will."
