By changing the configuration of the negotiation process with Azerbaijan, Armenia tried to find a better option for itself, allowing it not to agree to its obligations, senior researcher at the Center for Post-Soviet Studies of the National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Historical Sciences Stanislav Pritchin told Report.
He noted that the change in Armenia's attitude towards Russia is a fairly systemic process. At the same time, the trigger for this was that neither Russia nor the CSTO supported Armenia during another aggravation of the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
"Armenia counted on a guarantee from the CSTO. After their expectations were not met, they began to look for other formats of interaction, and even earlier, they supported the course of negotiations with the EU and the USA," the expert noted.
On October 6, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with French President Emmanuel Macron, President of the European Council Charles Michel and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Prague.
Following the meeting, Armenia and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and the 1991 Almaty Declaration, according to which both sides recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Armenia also agreed to contribute to the EU civil mission along the border with Azerbaijan.
