Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has addressed the international community.
According to Report's Georgian bureau, the ex-president said that he was arrested without trial.
The politician noted that he has been in prison for the 9th day, and no court hearings have been held into his case: “The arrest was made on the basis of two court decisions that no one in the world has adopted. According to the Georgian legislation, any detainee must be brought to trial immediately. The judge in my case told my lawyer today that no hearings are expected in the coming weeks.”
According to the former president, this is an attempt to prevent him from speaking publicly in the second round of local elections scheduled in Georgia. He stressed that in almost every major city his party received as many votes as Ivanishvili's.
M. Saakashvili called on the international community not to close their eyes to the fact that he was jailed without a trial.
Note that the ex-president was detained in Tbilisi on October 1 and placed in prison No. 12 in Rustavi.
