EU's position on Northern Cyprus, Türkiye's membership 'insincere,' Erdogan says

The European Union pursues an insincere policy on Northern Cyprus and Türkiye's EU membership, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

According to Report, the Turkish leader spoke in an interview with journalists who accompanied him during his visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Azerbaijan, his first foreign trip after re-election

"50 years have passed, and there are no changes in EU's position," Erdogan explained.

He also noted that the position of the current administration of the Greek community of the island is more peaceful than the previous ones.

“If they continue to adhere to this peace-loving trend, and do not look back at provocations, especially from the EU, and thereby say 'yes' to the fact of the 'sovereign equality' of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), then Ankara can say 'why now' [to the dialogue]. However, the priority in this matter is the recognition of the 'sovereign equality' of the TRNC. There is no way without this," Erdogan stressed.
