Twelve Turkish soldiers killed by gas exposure during cave search in Iraq

The number of Turkish soldiers who died after being exposed to methane gas during a search operation in a cave in northern Iraq on July 6 has risen to 12, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense said in a statement, Report informs.

Turkish Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler reportedly traveled to the region with a delegation to conduct inspections and participate in the farewell ceremonies of the martyrs.

Eight Turkish soldiers died after being exposed to methane gas during a search operation in a cave in northern Iraq on July 6, the National Defense Ministry of Türkiye said on Monday, Report informs.

Overall, 19 soldiers were exposed to the gas in the cave.

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov expressed his condolences to his Turkish counterpart Yasar Guler.
