The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has registered an application for the case Tbilisi Pride and others v. Georgia, the Georgian bureau of Report informs.
The given case concerns the events of July 5-6, 2021 - a large-scale violence organized by far-right mobs against the organizers of March for Dignity and LGBT+ activists.
The applicants (the non-governmental organization Tbilisi Pride) request the ECtHR to find the violation of Article 14 in conjunction with Articles 3 and 11 of the European Convention of Human Rights - degrading treatment and violation of freedom of assembly with a discriminatory motive, according to the Tbilisi Pride website.
The applicants put a special emphasis on the inaction of the State to prevent the violence that occurred on July 5, the failure of the state to bring the organizers of the violence to justice, ineffective investigation of respective crimes, and negligence on the side of the Prosecutor’s Office to grant a victim status for the applicants.
On July 5, 2021, more than 50 media workers were injured during anti-LGBT rallies. TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava, who was beaten by far-right activists during the anti-Pride rally, died on July 11.
