What happened on the night of July 15 is a great example of Türkiye-Azerbaijan solidarity and cooperation, Asip Kaya, Turkish Consul General in Nakhchivan told Report.
Asip Kaya assessed the prevention of FETO’s July 15 coup attempt as a turning point in Türkiye's modern history:
“On July 15, 2016, the FETO terrorist organization attempted a coup against the Turkish state, but at the call of our honorable President, the Turkish people took to the streets and with the support of state bodies, the treacherous plan was thwarted. This was a turning point in the history of the Turkish people. For the first time, the Turkish people resisted a coup so strongly. And then the government started a large-scale fight against FETO.”
The Consul General stressed that the fight against FETO continues today, and as a result of the measures taken, legal procedures were initiated against more than 700,000 suspects, an investigation was carried out in relation of 100,000 people, and more than 125,000 people were convicted.
“FETO is not only a threat to Türkiye, but also to the countries where it exists. Unfortunately, this network is still active in some countries. But our state continues this struggle abroad with the support of friendly and brotherly countries. As a result of our efforts, FETO was designated as a terrorist organization in a number of countries,” the diplomat said.
Kaya said that on the night of July 15, Azerbaijan and Türkiye once again demonstrated unprecedented solidarity:
“Azerbaijan has been in great unity and solidarity with Türkiye since the very first moments of this treacherous coup attempt. Mr. Ilham Aliyev expressed his support for Türkiye at that moment. Now we have extensive cooperation in this matter.
Cooperation was established not only against FETO but also against other terrorist organizations. We thank the people of Azerbaijan, our brothers. Türkiye and Azerbaijan have always stood by each other in hard times. The night of July 15 was a good example of this. Hopefully, our unity and equality will continue.”
