The Turkish National Intelligence Service (MIT) oversaw the the entire process of the prisoner exchange between Russia and United States, which took place in Ankara on August 1, from start to finish.
Report informs via Hurriyet that Russian and Western officials met and held discussions in Türkiye in July, leading to an agreement on the exchange of prisoners.
MIT was responsible for all security and logistical aspects of the process and provided mutual coordination.
Following the exchange, MIT also ensured the safe return of the prisoners to their respective countries.
The August 1 prisoner exchange in Ankara was the largest since the Cold War.
After the exchange, US President Joseph Biden spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to express his gratitude.
