With some exceptions, Kharkiv oblast was fully liberated, Yevhen Ivanov, the deputy head of the Military Administration of Kharkiv oblast of Ukraine, told Report while commenting on the latest situation.
According to him, attacks are currently ongoing both from the north, from the border with Belgorod region, and from the east, in Luhansk. The pressure is on the city of Kupyansk, Kharkiv oblast.
“But for a year and a half, the enemy has not been able to pass through a single settlement or capture even one meter of territory. Our soldiers prevent Russian attacks every day. The enemy could not achieve any results in the territory of our region. At the same time, since the beginning of this year, there has been a strong increase in the shelling of our territory, including the territory of Kharkiv city and Kharkiv oblast. We practically observe this from January 1, 2024,” Ivanov said.
He noted that brutal attacks continue in the center of the city, in the historical center, and residential areas: “In March of this year, attacks against energy infrastructure intensified. The heaviest fire in the entire history of the war occurred on March 22 of this year, when more than 20 missiles in one day destroyed our entire heating system. As of this moment, we have been in strict power-saving mode for three weeks, almost a month in fact, with no electricity.”
Ivanov stressed that it is difficult to ensure the operation of city transport, hospitals and important medical institutions, and water supply to citizens, but they are handling it. The situation is very difficult. The energy infrastructure was seriously damaged. With the events and devastation that have occurred, it will be extremely difficult to endure the upcoming heating season.”
