Constitutional Court of Georgia discloses when decision on impeachment of president will be published

The Constitutional Court (CC) of Georgia must send to the legislative body a decision on the issue of impeachment of President Salome Zourabichvili no later than October 14, Constitutional Court Judge Irina Imerlishvili said, Report informs via Georgian media.

On September 12, the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party submitted a proposal to the Constitutional Court along with a written demand of 80 deputies from the majority to launch impeachment proceedings against the president. The presidential impeachment trial, unprecedented in the history of Georgia, is now in its second day in the Constitutional Court.

The ruling party launched impeachment proceedings against Zourabichvili after she began a foreign tour and meetings with EU leaders on August 31 without government approval. According to the president, the purpose of the trips was to help Georgia obtain the status of a candidate country.
