Coal mine collapse in Iran kills 6

Following the collapse of one of the mines located north of Damghan in Semnan province, rescue teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident, Report informs, citing Iran press.

The head of the Damghan's Cooperative, Labor and Social Welfare Department on Sunday night while confirming the explosion in the Tazare coal min, said: "The casualties by the explosion in the Western Alborz coal mine in Damghan is under investigation."

Ali Akbar Mehrabi announced that the intensity of the explosion, the damage and the number of casualties will be announced after the investigation.

Kamal Taherian, Director General of Crisis Management of Semnan Governorate, also said that at 19:30 on Sunday, due to the accumulation of gas in one of the tunnels of the Alborz West coal mine in Tazare Damghan, the tunnel collapsed and 6 people were trapped and killed."

He added: "As a result of this explosion, a number of workers who were treated at the scene also suffered from gas poisoning.
