Cavusoglu: War in Ukraine - turning point for future of Europe

Turkiye continues to pursue a constructive course toward the comprehensive development of cooperation and dialogue with Europe in the light of the strategic goal of joining the European Union, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on the occasion of Europe Day - May 9.

Report informs, citing Anadolu, that the minister drew attention to the fact that Europe Day this year is celebrated against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine:

"Against the background of what is happening, we have again seen how difficult and valuable it is to maintain peace. The tragedy that unfolded in the 21st century in the heart of Europe practically returns it to the 1940s and is a wake-up call for all of us," Cavusoglu said.

The minister noted that the war would radically change the security architecture of the post-Cold War period and was a turning point for the future of Europe.

Further, Cavusoglu stressed that today the European Union is being tested for resistance to threats.

In addition to wars and conflicts, Europe is strongly affected by global uncertainty, climate change, energy dependence, terrorism, and illegal migration, the Turkish Foreign Minister stated.

While certain circles, especially in the European Union, occasionally see Turkiye as a rival and even a threat, Ankara has made and is making a significant contribution to stability and prosperity on the continent.
