The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini led to calls for regime change in Iran, Professor of Sociology and Muslim Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada) Jasmine Zine said at the international conference "Islamophobia as a Specific Form of Racism and Discrimination: New Global and Transnational Challenges" in Baku.
According to her, the murder of Mahsa Amini by the morality police in Iran for what they termed to be the 'improper wearing of hijab' has sparked strong protests of women across the country who are demanding regime change.
Jasmine Zine noted that there are many false stereotypes about Muslim women in the world, which must be eliminated in order to combat Islamophobia.
According to her, Islamophobia is a big problem in Canada. There have been two attacks on Muslims in this country.
