Camps for Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine opened

Special camps for Russian prisoners of war have been opened in Ukraine, Report informs citing UNIAN that Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova said.

“There are already (camps for prisoners of war). We have worked on this. They exist because, again, this is required by the Geneva Convention... As for prisoners of war, even medical care is provided to them at almost the same level as is provided to our guys. Therefore, I believe that we are showing ourselves as a civilized country that is rebuffing the aggressor, but does not become an aggressor itself," Venediktova said.

According to Venediktova, a joint order has been signed by the Defense, Interior ministries, and other services on the creation of these camps.

At the same time, the prosecutor-general clarified that a specially created law-enforcement agency - the Military Law Enforcement Service, is now dealing with the issue of prisoners of war.

Ukrainian sources put the number of captured Russian servicemen at about 700 and among them, about 250-300 military men are conscripts.
